2008/06/05 Pt2
As a continuation of the Pt1 from below. Think you understand the scriptures, what they mean, how they flow?
Consider this Scripture
ISAIAH 61:1
1 ¶
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;ISAIAH 61:2 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
ISAIAH 61:3
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
Jesus was given the scroll of Isaiah, and purposely found this scripture. The part in Red is what he read to them (Luke 4:18-19) and then promptly said:
This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears (Luke 4:21). Thus a comma and the word and are not fulfilled yet and there is a space of about 2000 years in them. So God can break a verse into parts, and it can span thousands of years.
Also consider this poplar verses (but misapplied) for John the Baptist.
MALACHI 4:5
5 Behold, I will send you
Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
MALACHI 4:6
6 And
he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
The part in green is the only part mentioned in the New Testaments.
LUKE 1:17
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of
Elias,
to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord
So again like the Isaiah scripture, only part has been fulfilled. The arrival of Jesus at the time of John the Baptist was not a dreadful day, nor the end occured. The coming and dreadful day of the Lord is when the judgments befall this world.
To say it any other way is to twist the scriptures. There is a reason and purpose scriptures are written a certain way, and what is recorded. This still leaves an Elijah to come, for the rest of the prophecy of Malchi to be fulfilled.
2008/05/30 Pt1
ISAIAH 40 3 ¶ The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
We know, what this scripture means, only because the Bible explains it to us. However if we were at the time of John the Baptist would we recognize it. Odds are we wouldn't, for very few recognized John the Baptist.
You say you would. I doubt it. For do you know when God speaks in parables, or plain in the scriptures? Do you know when it's figurative or literally? Do you know when it has a single meaning or double meaning? The Pharisees probably thought this forerunner would be some mighty Prophet by the sound of the scriptures. "There'd be a voice of one crying in the wilderness." And said, "All the mountains skipped like little lambs, all the leaves clapped their hands, the high places was made low, and the low places was made high," such prophecies as that.
But he came in simplicity. So God manifests his Scriptures in simplicity. Only babes willing to learn will catch it. Only God can interpret his Scriptures.
