Festival For A Future
was borne out of a (not so clever) pun on the name of an awesome band. We're a group of students from RGS looking to raise $100 000 by the end of this year to build a village school in rural China, and this concert is one of the means through which we're trying to raise those funds. FFAF brings to you a bit of rock (Electrico! Caracal! A Vacant Affair! The Fire Fight!), a bit of roll, and a whole lot of fun.

IT'S ALL HAPPENING 6th JULY 2008, SUNDAY, 2-10PM @GLASS PAVILION, FAR EAST SQUARE.

We regret to inform all supporters of a postponement in date.  All enquiries about tickets bought can be directed to the email below. However, the show will still go on on 6th July 2008, Sunday. (The next day is the Youth Day holiday.) Please note: Tickets sold for the 3rd of June WILL STILL BE VALID for the 6th of July.

More information about our cause:

We have two beneficiaries for the funds: 20% of them will go towards our school's Support An RGS Girl Fund, which caters to the less financially blessed students in our school; the other 80% will go towards the construction of a village school in China, a project which we have enlisted Citycare, a non profit organisation, to collaborate with us on.

The school will most probably be contructed in Wulong county, Chongqing, China, which is one of the poorest areas in the country. It will be taking the place of an existing government school, which as of now suffers chronic shortage of space (10 classrooms, approx 80pupils/class), deplorable conditions (no warmer OR ventilator - it ends up being freezing in winter and stuffy in summer) - despite the fact that it has under its ward 800 students, all village kids. China's policies for government schools specify that they are not allowed to turn away any student, and with its projected increase in enrolment at 100/year, the school is not only bursting at its seams but also looks to strain itself more and more each year. The new site will not only provide adequate classrooms but also new proposed facilities such as computer labs and dance studios to take the student's learning to a more comprehensive, holistic level. *We are now also exploring the possibility of diverting funds to the earthquake-stricken Sze Chuan region.
The parents of village children in Wulong come every beginning of the school term to cry and plead the school's staff to take their child in - we hope that with the construction of this new school, less or none of these parents will have to be turned away due to simply not having enough space to accomodate one more child, and one more future.
