| Making a layout is fun but it can be kind of hard!
Alright to start you need to make a banner. You can make this on any program, including MS Paint! Click here to see an example of a finished banner. When you are done making it, save it as either a jpg, bmp, gif, or png file. I use png because it seems to work the best.
Now go to Tinypic.com. They are a free hosting service and you don't have to register or anything! It is pretty straight-forward on how to host your picture. Once it is hosted, write down the link some place. Click here to find out which one to use.
Okay now to making a layout. Below is a very simple layout code and I will help you use it!
At the very top of the code it says "IMAGE URL HERE". That is where you put that link you got from Tinypic!
The next part of the code are the blink boxes. You don't need to do much there except put in your color codes. You may be asking where to get the color codes. Click here to see a site with a lot of the codes.
Most of the code after that is just places to put colors. There is another part where it says (IMAGE URL HERE) that is where you can put a picture you see in the backround. A good example is on my Shopaholic layout from my old site. The picture of the shopping bags in the corner is a backround picture. Under the backround position part you can say bottom right, bottom left, center, top right, top left, etc. If you want a a backround picture such as dots, stripes, stars, hearts, etc. what you do is you make a picture of a few dots or whatever you are using. Then host it, put the URL in the backround picture part and where it says "backround-repeat:" put "all directions". This will repeat your picture so that it covers your backround!
Making layouts takes a lot of experimenting, so keep trying and you will eventually figure out how to make it right for you!

This is how the MS Paint looks like.
