  • Back To School

Well, it's that time.  The first day of school - for DD#3 that is.  I still have 2 more weeks.  Yea for me!  Of course I still have a ton of things to do in that time also - lesson plans, handbooks, paper work etc. - for the new school year.  Plus knitting.  I've been knitting like a madwoman on the Goddess Knits Mystery Anniversary Shawl.  It's been so much fun!  Each clue came with 4 different charts to choose from so there's an incredible number of different shawls you can make just with this one pattern!  I've been learning a lot from it.  First circular shawl and first with a knitted on border.  No pictures right now cuz I ran out of yarn!!!  Can you believe it?  I'm half way done with the border and I've had to stop. It's a Knitpicks yarn and they're out until the 5th so I can't even order it until then and then I have to wait for it to come......Ugh!!  So I've had to pick up some other things.  I'm making some socks, made a cute little baby kimono for a friend of mine having a baby in a couple of weeks, and I'm thinking of starting on some more lace.  Pictures later.  We went to Oregon on vacation and I visited a couple of lys's while there.  Enhanced the stash a bit.  Again, pictures later.  Lesson plans call!

    The Perfect Evening

Well, last evening was so nice that I just have to tell about it.  Like I said the backyard is just so perfect this time of year and last night was no exception. The girls were here later - after DH's bible study - and headed out to the patio to talk and play guitar.  It reminded us of the beach house that we used to go to every year - people out on the sea wall talking, singing, making music.  Only one thing missing - the fire pit.  So DH went out and fired up the fire pit on the patio and we spent a lovely hour or two singing, laughing, and just having fun.  Hopefully the first of may such nights this year.  Tonight will be a barbecue and maybe dinner outside.  We'll see if the sky gets any clearer as we are getting a lot of smoke from the many wildfires.  Off to make chicken kabobs!

    Ah! Summer Vacation!

Two weeks of freedom!  Preschool ended last Thursday and I have a little over 2 weeks until summer school starts.  I'm planning on doing a whole lot of nothin'.  Well, not completely.  I want to do some painting - the living room and spare bedroom to be exact.  We'll see how that goes.  I want to straighten up my room, file my kntting patterns, and categorize some extra preschool curriculum out in the garage.  And, of course, I want to do a lot of knitting.  But I've decided not to stress about anything.  I don't get enough time to just relax and these are going to be the only 2 weeks I have to do it.  The back yard is just beautiful this time of year and my new glider has been calling me to just sit back, enjoy the sun, and knit.  And now we've got music out there too!  We got those wireless outdoor speakers and they're great!  It's just a great time to be outside.

As far as knitting goes I've got a lot to keep me occupied.  I'm doing the Goddessknits Anniversary Shawl KAL and loving it.  I'm on the second clue and it's the second week - so I'm doing a good job keeping up.  Ask me again in a week or two!  I'ts been a fun knit and my first circular shawl.  I'm also making a cotton t-shirt out of this pretty deep pink cotton yarn.  Just stockinette so it gets tedious, but it's an easy take-along.  And my fingers got itching for a pair of socks so I'm making a pair of RPM's from this great bamboo-cotton-nylon blend.  All blues and purples.  Really pretty.  I'll post pictures when I get things a little further on.  For now, I gotta go.  I need to be outside knitting!

We Interrupt This Blog for .....

IMGP3787 Spring!  Isn't this gorgeous?  We've got pink jasmine everwhere in the yard right now.  In front, on the side yard, in the back.  This is actually the street side of the fence.  So we're making the neighborhood beautiful too!  These are popping up out back too.

    Rotation of IMGP3788

Not as many as I'd like, but what's there sure is nice!  I'm waiting on the warmer weather, though.  It'd be nice to let the kids do some easel painting and other outdoor activities.  Right now I can't plan those things because the weather is so "iffy."

What else if up?  Well, I'm going to try my hand at a triangular shawl.  This will be a first so I'm not planning on it being done anytime soon.  I'm going to make the Swallowtail Shawl from Interweave.  This is the yarn.

IMGP3790 Socks That Rock Silkie in the Pink Granite colorway.  I picked this up at Stitches - two skeins worth so that should be more than enough.  I've wanted to make a shawl out of Silkie since we used some in the sock club last year.  I made mine into socks but it was pleading to be a shawl the whole time.

I'm working the heel on DH's second sock.  Should have these done by the weekend.

IMGP3791 This yarn is so nice and soft I could just keep working on it forever.

And finally - look what came in the mail yesterday!   IMGP3792Rotation of IMGP3792 The Yarn Harlots new book!  Yay!  In my short perusal it looks like a good read.  DD#3 thought it was very funny that there was a list in it of 5 Reasons Why I like Knitting Better Than Video Games.  I told her I quite agree.  Now if I can just stay away from it until I finish English Creek.  This ones for my reading club and I need to have it done in 2 weeks.  Easily done but I don't want to be delayed by knitting books right now.

Well, I'm off to wind some yarn!

"Ruling passion" and all that... I.e., whatever it is that is YOU! Something about knitting, I'd say. Think on it... and I will too. < Eli
