insomnia

One of my many favorites of Eason's music. Though as much as I give him respect for making the songs sound so good, I give more props to the composer/writers of those songs. Particularly for this song, written by 林夕, original name 梁偉文 Albert Leung. He's written for a lot of big names in HK and have been doing so for many years. I really like the lyrics for this song.

Thinking of my imperfections, would you leave my life's surrounding
thinking of your taste, would this pillow become any sweeter
thinking of meeting in the day, forgetting the night's coffee
only fearing feelings, like the tide, waning from my fortress in dreams

one person losing sleep, the whole world losing sleep
innocent street lamp, awaiting tomorrow
the happiness of insomnia, is because only fearing in closing my eyes,
how will I think of you till 6, how will I love you till the end

The times when you think of me, would you be like me and not sleep
thinking of  your warmth, would I be unable to count sheep, a pair a couple
thinking of meeting in the day, forgetting the night's coffee
only fearing feelings, like the tide, would wane from my fortress in dreams

one person's insomnia is the whole world's insomnia
innocent street lamp, awaiting tomorrow
the happiness of insomnia, is because only fearing in closing my eyes,
how will I think of you till 6, how will I love you till the end
how will I love you till the end

obviously translations are always a bit tricky, there are expressions in the Chinese language that no English can ever express.

Soleil on the F

New Yorkers being rude and cold-hearted is a big fat myth. Anyone who thinks so are vastly misinformed.

The Birthday

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. This was a big one for me, so thanks for sending love.

This weekend was fantastic. I have no patience at the moment to break it down in details, so I'll just list the things we did.

Koh Samui & Monkey take out dinner.
Opera at the ball park (Lucia di Lammermoor)
Morning drive to Santa Cruz.
Lunch at the Jumping Monkey Indian Restaurant.
LightHouse Beach Park.
Being buried beneath a landscape sculture of sand.
Diving into ice cold 48º water.
Boardwalk at Santa Cruz.
Arcades.
Dinner at San Mateo, Izakaya Mai.
Yummy Sashimi, *note, they have excellent chanpon, I'll definitely go back for that
Bonfire adventures at Ocean Beach.
Smores and friends.
Quiet and romantic evening with JK
Alice radio @97.3 Concert at Golden Gate Park
Saw some emo bands, Ingrid Michaelson, Marie Digby, and Lighthouse.
Mostly consistently good.
Loooong afternoon nap.
Dinner at Coco's Crawfish.
4 lbs crawfish, 4lbs shrimp, countless cobs of corn and sausages 7 people.
Bowling in Daly City.

++

I must say it has been one of the most eventful birthday weekends I've had in many years. Of course not all the activities above were intended to be FOR my birthday. But it still counts for me. Indeed as JK named this weekend a weekend of AWESOMENESS! <3

++

I haven't been keeping up with picture-taking. Mostly it's because I'd rather enjoy the experience than trouble myself with documenting ever bit of it. Partially it's because I have been lazy to take any. And partially because I haven't found the perfect camera for every occasion. I'm pretty particular when it comes to cameras, so if I know I'm not in the mood to take pictures, or if I know I'll be taking bad pictures because of the camera, then I'd rather not bother with it. Besides there's plenty of other people with cameras that will surely be flashing. And there were some taken during this weekend, I'll post them after I get them.

Another added note: My boss' baby was born at 11:30am, named Ezra Fiero, ON MY BIRTHDAY!! W00t!! Another Gemini/Cancer Cuspian! The coworkers are saying he should take my name as his middle name or knick name. Ezra "The Wu" Fiero. HAhahaahha.

summer solstice & ken robinson on creativity

++

So it's that time again. The sun has been climbing ever so diligently towards the zenith. This will be the first time in 20 years that I spend my birthday elsewhere other than New York City. But regardless of where I am, I hope all you lovely people go out and enjoy the longest day of the year. Summer Solstice parties, Midsummer parties, bonfires, outdoor concerts, picnics, barbecues, beaches. To share a birthday with such a festive time of year makes me so happy to be alive. For all those of you who can't celebrate my birthday with me, I hope you celebrate with me in spirit by being out in the sun and fully enjoy the weekend. Keep it loose, keep it tight, and breathe easy wherever you may be.

If you need more reasons, and if you're lazy to look, here are some suggestions on key events happening this weekend.

D-Crit

SVA recently announced it's offering of the country’s first graduate-level degree program dedicated to critical writing about design, beginning in the fall of 2008.

I'm growing increasing drawn to the idea of an MFA...

hmm...

what to do?
