    Sawdust 2008- A Couple Pics...

Finally got a chance to go down to the Sawdust with Joy and her friend Amber.  Always a pleasure and delight to attend this event!

Nothing helps convey the feel of this Laguna Beach legacy like the glass blower dude.  And when I say dude, I mean it.  Working with burning hot glass in board shorts and flip-flops, cuz that's how he rolls.  Note the coffee on the bench and the lei around the fire extinguisher.  THIS is Laguna Beach...

Of course the best booth of all, both structurally and artistically, is the Hurlbut's stained glass & brass sculpture booth.

    Take care all,

    The 2 AM Call...

If you have ever gotten that late night or early morning call that your significant other has been in a car accident, then maybe you know how I feel right now...  But I pray that few will ever have to know this feeling, of course.  I cannot sleep...

My fianceé is safe and sound at home, un-injured, thankfully.  I feel overjoyed that she is alive and safe, yet frighteningly aware that life is more fleeting and precious than we could possibly know, and how close we come to death in our daily lives.  But again, I am overjoyed.  Yet I still cannot sleep...

    I am in the wilderness
    You are in the music
In the man's car next to me
    Somewhere in my sadness
    I know I won't fall apart completely

When I need to be rescued
And I need a place to swim
I have a rock to cling to in the storm
When no one can hear me calling
I have you I can sing to

    And in all this
    And in all my life

    You are the lovers rock
The rock that I cling to
    You're the one
The one I swim to in a storm
    Like a lovers rock

I suppose I should mention that in approximately 224 days and 14 hours, Joy and I will be married.  Yes, we have set a date: April 4th 2009.  More details to follow.

Lord Jesus, we consecrate our lives to you and to the accomplishment of God's will.  Amen!

I have photographed from 8 AM to 11 PM for the past two days for a huge corporate event, and must attempt the same today.  I had better TRY to sleep now...

Take care all, and peace be with you,
    =Matt=

Image Concept for Night + Flash...

Stumbled upon a concept the other day.  Lots of potential, but I need to perfect it.  Any ideas?  I'm thinking we need makeshift space helmets or something...

TANGENT:  It never ceases to amaze me when people scoff at the fact that Nikon puts a pop-up flash on it's semi-pro camera bodies.  The dang thing is SO useful!  With a handful of new cameras from Nikon and Canon right around the corner, I have to say that this is one reason I prefer the Nikon D300 / D700 setup over any other setup, including the Canon 5D, it's theoretical replacement, (cause we're assuming they won't put a pop-up flash on it, let alone enable remote commanding) ...and even the Nikon D3, which does not have a pop-up flash.  The Nikon D300 and D700 are in my opinion near-perfect for photojournalism / action etc.

But, I don't want to get too geeky on this blog.  Suffice it to say that Photokina, one of the two largest annual photography conventions, is right around the corner, and excitement is building around all the new gear that we're going to see...  Yay...

(If you sense a lack of enthusiasm, it might be because most ALL of this new gear will be high-end, and out of my gear budget for 2008...  But all you big spenders out there, get your credit cards ready...)

    Take care,

    =Matt=

Hey everybody, welcome to my blog! Lurk all you want, but please feel free to leave a comment or subscribe via RSS as well.

This blog is where I post my thoughts and photographs from my personal daily life, my hobby as a nature & adventure photographer, and my work as a wedding & portrait photographer. I hope that by viewing and reading, you can get a good idea of who I am and what my life is like...

I am totally blessed to have the life and job that God has given me. I am engaged to get married in 2009! I love the outdoors and hiking / camping. My hobbies include nature photography, mountain biking and rock (or tree) climbing. And I absolutely love working with brides and grooms who also appreciate the same beautiful, natural light that I do. I love making relaxed, natural portraits with awesome people who love life as much as I do!

Take care and thanks for stopping by,

=Matt=
