psychic psychos

Russell has been working every night this week, so I hadn't really been cooking much, since I don't really like cooking just for myself.  Then last night, I went to the store to get something I never buy, like frozen pizza (I'm pmsing, get off my back!) and ended up selecting some fresh asparagus and apple smoked bacon.  I ended up making this incredible pasta, sautéing chopped asparagus in olive oil and a slice of the bacon, crumbling the bacon and tossing all of that with pasta, fresh parmesan, basil, salt, pepper, and cilantro too I think.  Very easy, and ridiculously good.

The only reason I even mention this is that I told R about it this morning, because I wanted to make it for him.  He stared at me like I'd grown another head.  "What???" I asked?  "That is exactly what I was thinking about making all week, but wasn't home long enough to make it.  Why did you think of that?"  I honestly didn't know, I just did.

I don't normally like to be in other peoples' heads, nor do I usually like it when other people are in my head.  But I like it when R and I are all up in each others' minds.  Even when I'm home by myself, I'm really not alone.  It's nice.

I go to pick up the boys this afternoon, and tomorrow is R's birthday, so this weekend should be full of cooking, baking, wrapping and unwrapping presents, and general silliness.  Gabe and I have decided to try and figure out how to get one of the cats to jump out of a cake for R.   So I have a lot to look forward to.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend, as well.

Lucy!

I'm home!

And I"m back at work.

Uh.

The fact that I've been on the road for two straight weeks for work, without a break prior to that, meaning that I've worked 3 weeks without a day off, shouldn't that mean that I should take today off?

Oh well.

I look forward to catching up on everyone!

Happy Monday!

updates - fresh and hot!

Well hello!  My name is O and I am TIRED!!!  On the home front, my daddy had hip replacement surgery yesterday, so if'n you don't mind, send a good thought or two to him for his recovery.  I talked to him about two hours after the surgery yesterday, he was amazingly sharp and awake, and said it went really, really well.  So, now it's on to recovery and PT!
On the travel/work front, it's been good.  I'm ready to go home, but it's still good.  Some highlights:

I spent all day last Wednesday with my boss, a coworker, and his wife, all together in the Village (east and west) and Chelsea.  We stopped in a little eyeglasses boutique where a lovely French gentleman pulled out about 30 different frames for me to try on as my friends gave me the thumbs up or down for each frame.  It was fun, actually.  If I'd had about $800 in expendable income, I would have bought one of them!  They were all imported and beautiful, and funky and a lot of fun.  It was a nice way to spend the day, just walking and shopping and seeing the area.  We covered a lot of ground, having taken a cab down to Christopher St and 4th, and then walking both villages, Chelsea, and then walking back up to the hotel at 55th and 7th.

We had a lovely dinner and went to see 39 Steps, which was completely fantastic and so funny!  It spoofed all of the major scenes of Alfred Hitchcock's films, and it was just hysterical.  We had great seats, too, which always helps.

Once Russell and the boys got here, we just started running all over the place.  They boys wanted a good view of the Brooklyn Bridge, so we took them to the waterfront and went from there to dinner at Morimoto.  Of course, that was amazing.  They had blowfish as an appetizer, and we were just about to brave it when they apologized and said that they had just run out.  The dinner was fabulous, anyway, as you can imagine.

While they were here, we went to MOMA and the Whitney (both two of my favorite museums) and this was the boys' first trip to art museums.  They were a little bored, but very sweet about it.  They enjoyed the Whitney more, which I expected since it is the biennial which is always really interesting.  We saw Wicked, and my friend Chris (stage manager) gave us a great backstage tour afterwards.  The stage is surprisingly small given all of the scenery and trickery that the show entails.  We also saw Sunday in the Park with George, which was just absolutely beautifully done.  The set was entirely white, to give a smooth surface for the projection design, which frankly stole the show.  Seurat's paintings came alive with the projection design, even down to two little animated dogs during one song.  The boys were bored for the most part (again!) but were really patient (again!).  They loved Wicked, though, so it was a good treat for their very first broadway musical.

We ate too much, walked too much, didn't sleep enough, and it was fantastic!  We had brunch on Sunday with a friend of Russell's who works at Circle in the Square, and then I saw them off at the lobby entrance so that they could fly back to Tampa.  Then Russell drove the 4 hours home to Tallahassee. I spent the afternoon walking back down to Chelsea and then hauled butt over to Union Square to see a show.

Monday I flew to LA, which was a long day.  We left NY at 1:30 EST and got to LAX at 7:30 PDT.  Yesterday, we rehearsed in the morning, and then took the stage managers to the touristy stuff you're supposed to do while in LA.  We also did the WB backlot tour, which was where I saw mothereffing Clint Eastwood.  I've met what might be considered a lot of "celebrities" given my line of business.  I've never had such a reaction to seeing - not even meeting, mind you, because he was in a golf cart driving by - but SEEING someone like that.  I grabbed my boss and was all "THAT WAS MOTHERF'N CL..." while he laughed and said "Yes, I could tell!" and so I was a butt of many jokes for the rest of the day.  But I don't care, it was fantastic.

We had dinner with alums last night... for three hours...  and then today we went to Venice Beach this morning and walked around there.  I think my boss is starting to get cranky about being the one to decide what we're going to do, but really, he wants to do things his way, soooo... it's just easier for me to go with the flow.  Got lunch, came back, I napped, and now I am catching up on email.  I was supposed to go to The Ivy tonight with my boss, but frankly, I don't have any desire to eat southern food that costs so much all the way across the country when I can eat really good southern food for the $7 the lord intended it to be at home.  And yes, if that makes me sound like a redneck, that's cool too.  But I swear, if for some reason my boyfriend, Steve Carell, decides to eat there tonight and I miss him, I am going to do something drastic.  Drastic, I tell you!  And by drastic, I mean cry like a 14 year old and then punch a kitten in the face.

We have the shows tomorrow, so I'll actually have to work (gasp!) all day and evening tomorrow.  I really hope agents turn out for this one.  We had an OK showing in NY, so that was successful.  But if even half of the RSVPs actually show up tomorrow, that will be great.  These kids all need representation on one coast or the other, so here's hoping.  The scene here is SO different from NY.  In NY, everyone is straightforward, honest, and there is very little BS (in theatre, anyway, I can't speak for the rest of the community).  In LA, there is a "scene" and you have to have a "look" and you have to wade through so much bullshit, I don't know how people do it.  I understand that the stakes are higher - Broadway can't compare to Hollywood, but I don't think it wants to - but damn.  I always tell the students, good luck man, because the game here is constant, tough, and unforgiving.  One young lady is so smart, she is studying up to get her bartending certificate so that she can live here.  Do that first, get an agent later.  That's smart.

I miss my husband, and this is my ghetto webcam arrangement in LA:

a little spike tape, and it's all good.  except he won't get online.  dammit.

Ok, I am done typing, and I am sure you were done reading about ten minutes ago.  I hope I am able to visit with more folks while I am here, but time is ticking away faster than I had hoped!  I'm going to spend some time with friends tonight, some of whom I haven't seen in literally a decade.  So that will be nice.  And I am still trying to figure out a way to get to you, Kim, dammit.  Plotting and scheming, it's what I do best!

oh and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH TOM WAITS IS ON TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I MUST SEE HIMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone is well!
