  • It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

  • Where do you go to get divorced?

    The children's library, of course!

Yesterday a couple and her lawyer came in to the children's library the to hammer out the gruesome details of their divorce. It is not at all unusual for people to conduct meetings at the library. It is public, neutral, and free. On several occasions I have had social workers with clients, discussing child issues or supervising visits.

This little threesome had not been there a full sixty seconds when the man got belligerent and started getting all sarcastic and loud. He was swearing and getting dangerously red in the face. I got my supervisor, who asked them to relocate to the adult part of the library. They didn't. Honestly. Fortunately, there were no children in there on a cloudy Monday morning, but there is a principle here that seems obvious to me.

Maybe for their next meeting they could go to the playground.

  • August 26 was a long time ago...

so here is what has happened since then.
    1. Olivia turned 16. Finally old enough to date. This is funny for a number of reasons. No she's not driving yet, but she's getting close. She went to her first formal. Her second year of high school is going well.

2.Dylan and Kim got engaged. Yipee! A January third wedding is in the planning stages.

    3. Mia moved to Maine. If you have unsubscribed to her, you may want to go check out her site. She promises to post more often.

    4. Randy and I moved Mia to Maine. This was great fun. The drive out there wasn't as bad as you might think, in spite of someone adding 4 hours to a 24 hour trip with a shortcut. ( it wasn't me and it wasn't Mia) Maine is, of course, gorgeous. We missed the leaf thing by a week, but it was wonderful without the leaves. We got to meet the family that she is living with and they are very cool with adorable kids. We got to see the camp where she spent last summer. I love having a good visual of where she is.

    5. Randy and I spent a day in Boston. Go there if you can. Very accessible place. We ate incredible Italian food.

    6. Max has gotten progressively cuter. smarter, and sweeter.

7 We got a camera. but haven't spent time figuring out how to put the pics on our computer. Pictures will follow.

    8. I decided who to vote for. My mother raised me with the notion that it is rude to say who you are voting for, so i will just say that I am voting for the person who I feel had lied the least. *sigh* I was hoping that this was the election that I could vote for someone who I really believed in.

9.We finally got a sidewalk. If you have visited us anytime in the last six months you know what a big deal this is.

That is it... there is no doubt more.

  • I love having so much action around our house. When the door opens you never know who may walk through. It could be Dylan coming home from work or Mia coming home from Rachael's house! Or Olivia or Randy or Kim or Boston! Ok, Boston knocks first. Anyway, it's fun, even with the grocery bill.

Randy and I joined the community center...again. I went this morning. It the least threatening place in the world to work out. Sure, you may have Little Miss Hard Buns running on the treadmill next to you, but on the other side there is an old man in overalls huffing and puffing away! There I am in the middle, flabby and fifty something, listening to Stevie Ray. Old enough to know I need to be there, but young enough to hope I don't look too stupid.

Anyone out there have an opinion on Donnie boy giving the opening prayer at the DNC? Just wondered.
