Cross-posting because it's fun and I feel it's an important message: It's that freezing time of year again-- the time of year when it's so cold that you're shivering as you walk down the street even though you're bundled up in your warmest jacket; the time of year when you see the bums (or, in more politically correct words, the "transients") wrapped in newspaper or, if they're lucky, in cardboard, holding our their cups and asking if you might be able to spare some change, and then wishing even those who won't spare them a glance a very happy holiday; the time of year when you come to the sad realization that you have to ignore some of them because you really don't have enough change for all of them no matter how much you want to help-- and then it hits you that you really are so very lucky, because, for you, the world isn't really that cold at all. Happy Christmas to everyone, happy new year, and a hearty I love you to everyone who even tries to help those who are less fortunate. |
